As part of their commitment to international development cooperation and to promoting the internationalization of their education systems, the governments of developed countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Japan and many others in Europe award state-funded scholarships to foreign students from all over the world.

US Government Scholarships

Fulbright Foreign Student Scholarship Program

The Fulbright Scholarship program is a fully-funded scholarship for foreign students from 155 countries around the world pursuing a masters or doctorate degree in the United States. Also, the scholarship can be awarded for non-degree postgraduate studies. The scholarship includes tuition, textbooks, airfare, a living allowance, and medical insurance. Around 1,800 scholarships are awarded every year.

Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program

The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program offers a year of professional enrichment in the US to experienced professionals from specific countries around the world. The scholarship includes tuition fees, scholarship, health and accident insurance, travel expenses, etc. About 200 scholarships are awarded annually.

UK Government Scholarships

British Commonwealth Scholarships for Commonwealth Developing Countries

Commonwealth Scholarships are for students from developing Commonwealth countries wishing to pursue masters and doctoral studies in the UK. The scholarship covers plane tickets to and from the UK, tuition fees, living allowances, thesis grant, among others . Around 300 of these scholarships are awarded every year.

British Chevening Scholarships

The Chevening Scholarships, the UK Government’s global scholarship scheme, are awarded to outstanding scholars from Chevening eligible countries across the world. The awards usually refer to a 1-year master’s degree. Most Chevening Scholarships cover tuition fees, living expenses (for one person), round trip economy travel to the UK and additional grants to cover essential expenses. Around 1,500 scholarships are offered worldwide.

The Netherlands

Orange Knowledge Program

The Orange Knowledge program aims to boost the development of skills, knowledge and quality of people and organizations in both higher and professional education and other areas related to priority issues in the program countries. Scholarships are available for a selection of short courses (duration from 2 weeks to 12 months) and master’s courses (duration from 12 to 24 months).

An OKP scholarship is designed to supplement the salary that you will continue to receive while studying in the Netherlands. The scholarship is a contribution to your living expenses such as tuition fees, travel, visa, insurance, etc. The scholarship holder must bear the difference between the actual costs and the amount of the OKP scholarship if applicable.

Holland Scholarships for EEA/Non-EU Students

The Dutch Scholarship, funded by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture & Science, is aimed at international students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) who wish to pursue their bachelor’s or master’s degree at one of the Netherlands’ research universities of applied science in the Netherlands. The scholarship awards a total of €5,000.

Belgium

Flemish Government Master Mind Scholarships for International Students

The Flemish government is launching a new scholarship programme, Master Mind Scholarships, which aims to promote the internationalization of Flemish higher education. It awards up to 45 scholarships to outstanding Master’s students from countries around the world. The incoming student receives a grant of up to €8,000 per academic year. The Flemish host university may charge the applicant tuition fees of up to a maximum of €109 per year.

VLIR-UOS Scholarship Program

The VLIR-UOS is awarding scholarships to students from 31 developing countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America who wish to pursue a development-related Master’s Program or English Taught Training at Belgian universities. The scholarships cover tuition, accommodation, stipend, travel, and other program-related costs.

Germany

DAAD Scholarships for Development-Related Postgraduate Courses

The DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst) awards scholarships for a number of postgraduate courses with a particular focus on developing countries at German universities. The scholarships are specifically for international students and young professionals from developing countries in Asia, Africa, the Pacific Islands, South and Central America, as well as Eastern and Central Europe. The DAAD scholarship supports selected programs with a wide range of fully-funded or partially-funded scholarships.

Switzerland

Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships

The Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships offer graduates from approximately 180 countries the opportunity to pursue a doctorate or post-doctorate in any academic field at one of the publicly funded universities or recognized institutions in Switzerland. The scholarship includes a monthly stipend, tuition fees, medical insurance, accommodation costs, etc.

Sweden

Swedish Institute Scholarships for Global Professionals

The Swedish Institute awards scholarships in Sweden to highly qualified international students from developing countries who wish to pursue full-time master’s studies at Swedish universities. The scholarship includes tuition fees, living allowance, travel allowance and insurance. Approximately 335 scholarships are offered.

Denmark

Danish Government Scholarships for EEA/Non-EU Students

The Danish Ministry of Education offers a variety of scholarships each year to fund highly qualified and motivated international students from outside the EEA/EU pursuing a full higher education program at participating Danish universities. Australia International Postgraduate Research Scholarships

The International Postgraduate Research Scholarship enables international students to pursue a postgraduate research qualification in Australia and gain experience with leading Australian researchers. Scholarships are available for two years for a master’s degree through research completion or for three years for a doctorate degree through research completion. The scholarship covers tuition and health insurance costs. About 330 scholarships are awarded annually.

New Zealand International Postgraduate Scholarships

The New Zealand International Scholarships offer international students from selected developing countries in Africa Pacific, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean and the Commonwealth the opportunity to study in New Zealand to gain knowledge and skills through higher education in a specific subject that contribute to the development of their country of origin. The scholarships cover tuition fees, travel expenses, living expenses and insurance.

Singapore

Singapore International Postgraduate Scholarship

The Singapore International Postgraduate Scholarships are awarded to international students with excellent academic achievements in their Bachelors and/or Masters degree and a strong research interest leading to a Doctorate (PhD) degree in Science and Engineering from a university in Singapore.
